Basically without saying too much, a friend of Matt's (the dude I do the group with) from California has recently had a spell of bad luck and basically fled the US for reasons that can't be spoken of. He had a deep fondness for Matt when Matt was living in LA, and gave matt 6 extremely expensive vintage synthesizer's to "hold on to while he's away", and "make as much cool music as possible with"... So that, we are doing. A weird twist of fate, huh? ..............talk soon

Ok, last weeks The Grid one of Toronto's weekly newspapers formally known as Eye had a front page article about how Toronto is the best city in the world for music (this story was also picked up by NY times writers/bloggers). I haven't read it because I am not a fan of music journalism really and usually can't stand hearing other peoples opinions on other peoples hard work whether its a discussion, or an article. Sometimes it's cool though... If its funny.
Now, I'm sure the article talked about some pretty obvious popular stuff that Toronto has produced over the years, but to me the exciting thing about Toronto is its young crop of bands. Some are still figuring out where they wanna go with their music, some are writing the odd good song, most have measly attended shows which are far too frequent to be special.. but thats the part I really like about music. I sound old and lame, but watching younger bands grow into something cool is a special thing. Being a part of it in some capacity is even better, so I present to you Actual Water's first 7". A band from Toronto made up of 4 highly intelligent extremely well dressed borderline guido's writing great songs. I helped write these tunes with them, and recorded them but in a few years time they will be writing some of the best pop music (or techno? [without me, as i will be way passed my prime and deep into some terrible stuff]) and will be a part of the next wave of why Toronto is one of "the best music cities in the world"... to me they already are.

Catch them this thursday with the marvelous darlings at sneeky dee's in toronto.. or pick up their record from PLastic Idol.. Or pick up their LP from Unfamiliar Records which also just came out, or is coming out soon.. I dunno.

yo dudes - happy to announce that the roommates songs from those tapes that no one has cuz there was only 66 made and im pretty sure i have like 20 in my room collecting dust (and value). Well, those are now being compiled on a 7" through the great label Slumberland Records. I've corresponded with Mike (slumberland) a number of times over the years just exchanging kind words about what each other has been up to (he obviously being at what he does for quite a while now!) and I'm pleased that we are finally working together on something. His label is impressive, what he does is all on his own, and hes done some great things for some cool bands. I'm thankful those Roommates tracks have found such a cool home.

Apart from kicking off the new year with getting the Darlings stuff going again (new rhythm section which includes Ryan and Jesse from The Scuzz band) I've been deep into a new project with Matt Delong.. who has kindly come back to Canada for the moment to enjoy the charming slush and shitty nightlife of Toronto. Avid NGNL readers will remember me mentioning a project called Yacht Club once or twice.. This is something matt and i have been wanting to do for years now but with him losing teeth in LA and me being on the road with FU its only been talk up until this point. It's not punk, and it barely has any real instruments (guitars are present, and maybe a few live drum tracks played by matts dad). I guess thats all I'll say for now about that besides that George Micheal could def have a good wank to it.

so we got the cover of MRR today and they voted Police 7" the best thing since Red Lobster. also here's the turn the season video. the best song on DCTL next to Queen of Hearts. Wrapping up another end to a good year in our world over here. Looking forward to 2012.. Today is also the last show of theFoo fighters tour. It has been a nice vacation, and if it wasn't for Pumping Iron (the movie) and the gyms in the hotels, I would look like Danny Devito by now (meaning: the catering was excellent and by god did we partake). Hey, remember this record? it was a lathe on scotch tapes. it was supposed to come out on a real record but Al from scotch tapes apparently got into a freak accident on his fishing boat and cant look at a computer screen without having a seizure. I hope this isn't true, but if it is that is awful and I hope he is ok. Good guy. Anyways - the record is coming out on SP records in Japan. My girlfriend had to endure a hot pizza on her face, so basically this is my abusive nike child labouresque effort. Support it.

We got a great deal up there via Steve (god), so I had to be quick and wrote 6 songs in a week, taught it to the highly skilled best players in Toronto (scuzz) and we recorded it all in one day. Hey dudes. So as many people know I record other bands when I am not on tour. I don't have very good gear (maybe one day I will), but I know how to use what I have and I'm also big on mixing so I try my very best for bands that want to work with me. A few months ago a couple classy folks from the west end of Toronto, who I guess are kind of a part of that whole Stelmanis/Austra/Pizza Libretto thing going on out there, came to my studio and we recorded some singles for their project ARMY GIRLS. Carmen is a great singer, and guitar player and they basically did all this in one take and it was super easy and not annoying. The song writing is spot on, and feels very honest to me. Check them out. They just put up "The Power" on their soundbook.

Also the song i wrote with Anthony/Actual Water is coming out as a single on Plastic Idol pretty soon. No Warning played a lot of random shows. We toured the US a bunch of times, but only on our "hardcore" record like once and only got as far as Chicago or something and then we left our van in an alley and took the bus home. I funded the whole band with my acting money for the first bunch of years. When we got signed, the rest were these hellishly empty tours with bad metal bands, random screamo bands, and random nu metal bands. Looking back these shows were terrible but the times provided some amazing memories and insane stories. The things you get up to on an empty tour with nothing to do, and not much to worry about. We had no idea what we were doing and just went with it all. One day maybe I'll write it all down. All the sides of the musical world I have seen from being signed to Linkin Park's label/Warner Bros and touring many places with a bunch of psychos, to being in Fucked Up the ultra indie hardcore band touring the world with a whole different breed of psychos. I just did a big interview with Razorcake Magazine that will come out soon. It covers everything I have ever done, and what I think about it all.. Needless to say, the interviewer did his research. It's decent. Here's some photos of a weird time, but a good one. Thanks to Robin. NWC.

This NXNE Guv & The Scuzz set sail for Hawaii on a Mariposa Cruise Liner filled with the beautiful rich and famous, and one very out of place tattooed Bulgarian street kid. He was promptly thrown overboard like a dead rat (but sadly not before the hungry sailors had their way with his boyish body). The boat only made it to Etobicoke (pronouced: 'eatabigcock') before having to turn back due to Biddle being caught with Moonshine in a Gwar flask that he traded for homegrown mary jane to some Scarborouh Hill Billy named Frodo or something. I got caught twice sneaking on ganja, they even checked my shoes. I hid it in a flower pot by the sobeys and got it later. It wasn't even mine! That shit makes me freaky. So much for helping people. I'd like to thank Captain Pooni for teaching me Poonjabi (foody="vagina"),and Ewan for having a piece of white crust at the side of his mouth the whole time. Also for wearing a black motorhead shirt on a 5 hour boat cruise in the beating down sun. Three cheers for the pale and Irish. People bootlegged Guvnor sets this weekend, so maybe they'll get posted if people are interested in collecting soundbytes. I wont post them unless they are cool like all those Replacements live sets i downloaded once and deleted instantly.

Anyways - we are having a release shin dig next Monday night to celebrate the release of DCTL by FU. I am sure most people have it already cuz they pre ordered now get early or whatever, I haven't seen the record yet but I assume it looks awesome. Someone on the b9 board (it got fwrded to me, I do not read those retards talking to each other helz no) was hating on "TURN THE SEASON". Uhhhh.. Hellllllllloooooo... its the best song.. Duh!!

Ok, here's the deal. I haven't posted anything in a while because there hasn't been all that much Guvnor record stuff going on. It's slowed down a little this year so far cuz I've been working on the scuzz thing, and getting it going for live shows. Which is working out amazingly by the way. Jonah was supposed to record the first gig and we were going to release it but he forgot so it'll happen at the next one. I already have the layout designed, thats how prepared I am ! A weird old man filmed the show, but nothing has surfaced. If you are listening guy with a giant camera please get in touch. Also Fu's new LP "david comes to life" drops next week, and a 70 minute 16 song musical can keep one pretty busy. I've even done a bunch of interviews even though I don't usually do that for Fucked up, and I also don't even know what the record is about. Jk. I have a rough idea. Talking isn't really my thing. Neither is blogging. It works out though because Damian and Mike are good at both. Anyways - A few Guv records back in the works. Everyone will like it. I am playing at the Hard Luck bar in Toronto on July 15th (more info soon). This blog sucks now eh? It'll bounce back. No worries.

Wad up, lovers. This holiday is super whack, but here's a song that was recorded 2 years ago (at least!) with my friend Simone who plays drum in one of the other best bands in the world (I play in like 3 of them), Tropics. Who I will be posting about more and more in the months to come because I am recording a 12" for them, and producing it and releasing it and its gonna be bonkers music that probably no one will really understand until 5 years after when Max is a movie star and Simone physically transforms into an actual snare drum (a really nice, and friendly one though). Anyways - This song I originally wrote for Marvelous Darlings but no one seemed really psyched on it (theres a recording of it somewhere) so it got shelved. I always thought it was a catchy song. I hate garage rock, but after seeing a certain garage dude perform I thought I could do a song like that (but better), so it happened. Simone played double drum tracks on this, and theres even some bongo's in there. I asked her because I thought the song had an Elvis vibe (she's obsessed), or whoever that boyish blonde rockabilly dude is that she says I remind her of. She is also one of Toronto's best drummers. She is also one of the nicest and greatest people you will ever meet.

The B side is a ballad, and should have been recorded with an orchestra (one day!) except I don't know how to play it because its in a tuning I made up, that I forget (that goes for The Bitters "Hav A Nap Hotel" record too..). Speaking of the Bitters we will be playing a really random show soon at Mercury Espresso Bar in the East End (as a duo). Because it's 2 blocks from my house. Also Aerin works there and makes espresso with lamb fat and mashed potatoes and calls them "Sunday Roast". Good name, eh? They are celebrating 5 years of existence, being snobby, and pretending Coffee is really really important... wait, maybe it is?. (jk, they always hook me up, they are awesome)

I wrote this song in my mums basement, and I haven't lived there for YEARS.. So, i guess this song is more like 4 years old. Still rippin'.

(better craigslist those 12 strings, you west end pussies, you'll never write a song as good as LATOYA!!) I heard a story once where a girl at a show was overheard saying "Ya that bands was good and all... but I heard the singer screaming in a high pitched voice to his friends after, and all he kept talking about was how big his dick was.. so I dunno.."

It will be available through my marvelous webstore very soon (like next week latest), but for now please pick it up at Plastic Idol (they released it!!). This is the 4th guv/darlings related record on this cool little label, and by now I am such good friends with Mario that he sends me vintage bottles of wine in the mail from the beautiful vineyards of San Diego. He also sends me burritos. This is the reason I keep giving him the best records, and songs. Actually the real reason is because he is nice, the art always looks good, his records are good quality.. and.. Well he just has really good timing I guess. He goes like "hey ben, think im ready for another release.. what you got?" and whenever he does that i seem to be putting the final touches on something bomb.

OLD AMAZING TORONTO BAND COVER #2

Ok.. I was going to wait a little while to post this to let the last song and option to buy the record sink in, but I can't wait anymore. A few years ago me and marvelous Mark Fosco (darlings) recorded a YOUTH YOUTH YOUTH cover song called Domination for the BYO boxset anniversary edition. It was the best song on the comp, and amazing song altogether and we never got our copies of the boxset. But through the connection Fucked Up did end up playing the BYO bowling fest thing in Vegas last year where Damian witnessed a certain lead singer of Nofx get his ass eaten out at a fetish sex party (thats all i'll say about that). This was also my first and only slamming appearance as a hardcore vocalist since we broke up No Warning, and I must say - I am still The King. Jk. (not). Brian Taylor of Rotate This (or Mean Guy Brian as we used to call him growing up due to his curt nature as a record store guy [hear me yell "MEAN GUY" in the cover song below !!!!!!RESPECT!!!!!]) fronted Youth Youth Youth and I heard that when he heard the cover he hoped I would come down to the store and perform it with my shirt off. I am still considering doing this.

anyways.. here's the next old Toronto cover

when i was about 13 or 14 my favourite band from Toronto was a band called The Stiffs (not to be confused with this band who are also bomb). i also definitely never liked the Bare Naked Ladies when i was 10, i did like hayden though when i was 12. they were a 3 chord pop punk band influenced by green day and screeching weasel. the singer was short (like me) but had more of a hunch back. he had a pretty cool uni-brow too (uni brow = COOL SINGER). I saw them at battle of the bands shows before they started playing "real" punk shows at Club 360 with bands I never thought were any good (marylins vitamins, tire kickers) but everyone else in Toronto and on the local college radio punk shows (that damian and sandy from fucked up hosted!) loved..

I remember seeing Rob the singer at an empty battle of the bands in the east end of T.O smoking a cig in the club with a shirt that said "vampires suck". so cool. they covered "veronica hates me", i think, which I still think was a weird choice to this day.. great song though. their demos were lightening fast, and even sped up by the tape recorder sometimes (accidentally) to make them sound faster. It was like listening to a 35rpm band on 45rpms at all times. Their "RUMORS" demo is in my opinion one of the best Toronto releases ever (good luck finding it) and recently in exchange for recording a RAP VERSE for Damian on a certain Canadian rappers song featuring MOKA FUCKIN ONLY!!!! (i dont care this song is SICK), he gave me a cd of the demo he transferred from his cassette collection. The band eventually had to change their name and became Dead Letter Dept and put out an amazing EP on Ductape Records (RIP). Good luck finding THAT as well.

Rob the singer has a new thing called Rob Moir. Find it here. Not sure what the other dudes are up to, but I'm sure they are doing it at 45rpms. Also if the stiffs/dld ever do a reunion and don't invite me up to play 2nd guitar on a song ie, Rumors... actually, i won't care at all! I'll be psyched.

Naturally, I had to do a cover. Below you will find the original (AMAZING, listen to those drums) and my version which I tried to make sound like The La's or something with Anthony's 12 string lying around the studio. Also Vassil from City Sweethearts had come by the studio that day to go over some mixes I was doing for them. I made him play drums on the track very quickly before working on his stuff. I don't think he minded. Also, below you will find the YYY cover song (you can also download that from soundcloud, I think.. i made it available for everyone).

The "rumors" cover will be the B side to an upcoming 7" on Pleasence Records from Toronto. The single is called "Bedroom Eyes" and it will be the first Young Guv & The Scuzz record featuring all the band members, a new organ lady by the name of Robin who plays in a female weezer cover band called Sheezer (they are famous, look it up) and also Aerin from the Bitters on horns.

Also coming up on the same label is the Tropics "Pale Trash" record (best record of 2010 that never came out) I recorded for them a long long time ago that never came out on the label that agreed to do it, and a Huckleberry Friends 7" which is straight GINA BEATS as always.. More on Pleasence and the funny story about how I am connected to the dude that runs the label. Wow.

This song was taken from an old demo of mine when i was in another band.. the idea was scrapped or considered not good enough, but I always felt that the melodies and feel of the song was solid. the original was pretty fast, and was a lot more powerpop. at the time i recorded this song i had a few fuzz pedals kicking around and my friend anthonys jazzmaster was in the corner and since I was listening to a lot of dead moon and fleetwood mac i decided to use a fleetwood mac beat and play it like i thought dead moon might play it. i dont really listen to dead moon anymore. i kinda think it was a phase. i originally had agreed to meet up with simone form 100$ so she could sing back ups on this, but it never happened so i scrapped that idea. i played slide guitar with an empty can at the studio.
the lyrics were inspired by a guy who when hanging around would always hint at something to do with me and my girlfriend being married one day. he seemed completely obsessed with the idea of marriage and security and me being a young man from a divorced family with the opposite views on the subject I couldn't help but take a knock at him in a song... Some of my best friends are married..Respect to them, but I still think its a weird thing to do.

this is an EPK that was put together by some random dude many years ago, and did a lot to help us get signed to Warner Bros and sell out the hardcore scene and make a shit load of money that we all spent pretty quickly. Fred Durst saw this and called us "Phat", and wanted to sign us on the spot. hardcore is a mystery to people on the outside, and as lame as it gets it'll always kind of be that way! hey I haven't posted anything in a while because either a) I've been on tour and I'm too lazy b) no records have come out since my last post.. and thats all I really think is worth posting anything about c) ive been recording other bands d) ive been watching tevez e) ive been spending money f) most importantly.. working out the live band version for all of this so I can actually play a gig. It's going pretty well. Young Guv & The Scuzz features two gentlemen from No Warning (gavel/jesse) who now play like session musicians for Motown Records, and Serdi from Marvelous Darlings. I've played with these cats for over 10 years now. Eazy.

"DIRTY, DIRTY, LEEDS"

Leeds is a magical magical village in England where the only person above the age of 30 is a bald man named Jace who plays in a skinhead oi (people still do this?) band called (fuck, I honestly cant remember) and they dress up as cricket players and play Jonah's guitar he paid half of for. The rest of the population are students having sex with each other and ordering Pizza and yelling. Some are goth's that go to a goth club in a church off the main strip. There is a top notch curry in the Park in Leeds, but the owner supports United so I'm pretty sure I'm eating curried dogshit from the aforementioned Park. Tastes bomb though. Jonah always gets the 900 chili vindaloo and destroys his innards. The one time the curry in the Park was closed Andy, Damian and I strayed off our curry on the reg and got some bastardized version down the road. 30 mins later I was barfing in a forest. Theres a quote here that's escaping me from our driver at the time about me feeling great after puking in a forest, but its not that funny. This is the 2nd out of about 10 times I've been sick in England on tour. I remained food poisoned all night at Andys house in London feverishly dreaming about his toilet bowl and cat crawling down my throat like that Tales From the Crypt episode. He cooked us English breakfast the next morning and I must say really made me feel great. Leeds sucks, and I sleep in the van every time because Jace's cat won't die. I'm always stoned by the time we are off to bed, so an hour before I sleep I'm sitting up in the van paranoid (but not as paranoid as Damian smoking anywhere with a police force AKA EVERYWHERE) waiting for the van to be burglarized and our gear ripped off. In the back of mind I know I will just sit there and let it happen so the show the next day gets canceled, or at least we can borrow gear and make it interesting and sound bad but cool.
Here's to another cold van sleep, terrible breakfast sub's, and Jonah farting fire and burning Leeds to the ground. See ya there!

This show will be a good one because it is the last day of tour, we will be in good moods, we will probably get free stuff, we fly home the next day.. and despite my above piss take on the place Leeds is always a solid gig.

p.s I know the Bitters kind of got lost in that whole fuzz pop lo fi thing, but the record that came out on Sacred Bones that I've never read anything about or seen anywhere and seems to have just been lost under the rug somewhere (makes sense because we were never a "real band") has been uploaded here, by these ladies from Toronto. Give it a whirl. The record is awesome. cheers

yo what up is me again, the most prolific illest MC this side of wankerville bringing you yet another smash except this time a much bette, more thought out video and collaboration with the one and only Mrs Deezy Dona Arbabzadeh AKA the most talented video artist in the world killin it everytime she plugs in 200 tv's and makes illin' art installments and videos. I was lucky enough to be able to hand this track over to her and after a few hours at Toronto's infamous hooker hotel (THE WAVERLY on spadina) in a room that cost 30$ clad in a custom satin robe designed by Mrs Avery Danika, with cockroaches crawling all over us (danielle nems had to bail out after 5 minutes and had a for real panic attack because shes scared of crawling things), we cut some shots of me singing the tune on a leopard print bed sheet (thank you marion aka Grandma, i actually have it on my real bed now at home and didn't wash it so for the first 2 weeks of having it in my room i thought i could feel bed bugs crawling all over my skin and became insane by it.. now im fine). Dan Burke also popped by to hang out (because he lived in the hotel for a while doing crack, and I also really liked him) and he is featured at the end of the video. Dona and I killed a mickey of Rye and then randomly found ourselves in a VIP booth at the Air Canada Centre that night watching Lady Gaga (which was awesome).. Enjoy. We squeezed into the tiny place and played some songs one night to a few friends and some bewildered locals. I recorded it. Sounds crazy. Lots of male sexual grunting. Pick it up.

Due to the massive increase in readers of this here blog by cottage goers of Northern Ontario I have decided to periodically (and by periodically I mean once a year, or probably never again) "write" about Northern Ontario hot spots Aka Chip Trucks. I've been all over the world, and yes there are chippies in England (mostly disgusting), but I have never come across the chip truck quality of our fabulous and most beautiful and friendly province of Ontario (Yes, I like Canada, and Canadians... A lot). I have been visiting Northern Ontario (much like the country side of Finland or Sweden I have come to learn) my entire life. Growing up with a single mum whose sole obsession was to tuck herself and her two psychopathic angelic blond little boys away in a rented cottage somewhere up there every summer I came to love everything about the place. My mother would research cottages all winter, and work her shit job while suffering from a debilitating disease (that she would eventually be cured of by a "test run" medication.. Thank god) to afford the cheddar so her boys could shit in lakes and force the other to watch with a snorkel and mask ("it looks like birth"), kill fish, hail mary frogs into the lake, get sun burned, make smores, eat grilled cheese, , fight, etc. I've never had the slightest urge to vacation anywhere else. Two years ago, after 20 years of renting, she was able to buy her own with the support of her washed up actor son with savings, and her other working man carpenter kid. In the two years of part owning paradise I've been there only 3 times, but knowing that she now has her own place feels pretty swell. This past weekend while fighting a sinus infection I had a vacation with two of my closest friends. It was great.

Annnnnnyyyyways.... The point of this post.... If any of you wonderful people are ever cruising up in your china town rental car along Davis Drive about to pull onto HWY 48 NORTH, and you DON'T stop at this family run school bus turned chip truck who make their own fries, deep fry mushrooms and make the best poutine outside of Quebec (thats not some whack ass poutine speciality Queen West hipster spot)... You are sorely missing a taste explosion. Also we ate hot dogs and their sausages. We had little time to explore the menu, which was nothing out of the ordinary, but that's the point of the chip truck, right? ... Sticking to the classics. Foot longs, Peameal on a bun, home made chili.. WHATEVER!

Oh and their "OUT HOUSE" smells like "Vanilla" and Hilary "didn't even wanna leave" after pissing in it. A serious plus, no?

Young Governor "Call Me When The Cat Dies" 7"
For those of you not paying attention, Young Guv is Ben Cook's solo project, the guy who also plays like fifth guitar in Fucked Up, does The Bitters thing and once fronted moshcore superstars No Warning. Where the guy finds the time, I have no idea. Under the YG name he's released a slew of singles/EPs over the past year which gained some critical acclaim and which I've somehow managed to miss. Go figure. "Call Me..." is a pretty impressive frantic punker with a Sage-like anthemic downer quality and some neat sounding guitar whoosh-effect. Good stuff. B-Side is actually an Oasis cover ("Fade Away") given the lo-fi mod-boy treatment. In a further fit of Anglophilia, Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland is thanked on the sleeve. Not bad for one-man-bedroom-banding, at least he doesn't sound like a nutless Cure fan crying onto his four-track. Scum stats: 600 copies.(RK)

"Bedtime Stories" is what happens when yer Blank Dogs awkward bedroom pop lies out in the sun too long and melts on top of some mid-period Replacements-style Westerbergedness…a long n’catchy track that kinda’caught me off guard. I actually think I dig it. A lot. No reverb’d or f/x damaged vocals…all the snot is up front; blown and fucked au natural. "The Cutter" on the flip punx it up quite a bit more. Faster and louder. Like a mechanically tight yet slop-twin to the Useless Eaters. The break in the chorus brings Adam Ants’ "Zerox Machine" to mind, and that’s a plus in my book. I’ve played it a dozen times this past week and I’m still feeling it. Now what? Do I have to go buy all the other releases? Damn…Unsolicited fun from the folks over at Southpaw. Thanks!(RSF)

hello YALL. So for 4 days i've been sitting in a 4th floor apartment ("FLAT") in London (TOWN) shitting my stomach out and barfing up the remnants of bacteria I accumulated from brushing my teeth with Russian water.. even though I really think it was a rancid smoothie I got when I landed back in the UK. Anyways. I've missed 3 FU shows in a row trying to get better, bouncing back today. Just ate a bacon sandwich ("SARNIE"). My entire family comes from this part of the world, and I used to live in Bristol but I can honestly say the quality of food in this country is the worst in the 1st world that I know of. It's embarrassing and I'll say it again "Fuck England". Thanks again for trying to kill me. I hate you. (love you nana, dee, justin, lindsay). I'd love to say I won't be back soon, but I'll be back in October on some whack as$ punk tour, but its short so I'll just hold my breath and eat my hair.

Tropics is a band I've been fond of for a while especially once I started to record them. They are the best duo around, and the craziest thing - NO ONE KNOWS!!! Full respect to all the other hippie hipster duo types out there, but you don't ROCK. you SUCK. seriously.

Composed of two mates of mine Max (Slim Twig) & Simone TB (featured on Guvnor BEAT OF MY HEART 7" out soon). I've since recorded 2 super tight 7"s for tropics and am trying to get them out there, but since they are kind of unheard of outside of Toronto and are super original and cool sounding most labels are too pussy to touch it.. but we'll work it out. This band is one of the best in Toronto, and I'm happy to be a part of it in some capacity. Respect.

My apologies for not posting anything here for almost a month. The originally purpose of this blog was to post my words on Fucked Ups China trip last year, but then it morphed into a news blog to keep people up to date on records I do every month ( and other useless and jumbled information and tidbits from other parts of my life. Since I haven't had a record come out this month (except the roommates tape), and since I've been on boring ass tour this whole time stripping half naked in the middle of festivals, woods, and the french alps to STAY JACKED.. There's been no posts! There has been a few good moments on this tour though..

I met a chick with the same bag as me! Sarah where are you!!! *tear* *fart* !! We fell in love.

Also I've been living off something called Mustamukkara here in Finland, which is basically just eating blood with jam.

Hey - The pizza face below belongs to one of the Huckleberry Friends AKA H.B.F AKA the first band I recorded for one of those lathe things AKA the band that joined Fucked Up on stage at the Opera House this year AKA the girl that sang on Fucked Up's "WALKIN ON SUNSHINE" cover AKA the band that is on their way to Nunavut to play some weird gig then go camping where theres no trees and sun 24 hours a day. Weird chicks. Good people!

They are about to release a 10" of some tracks they recorded at an abandoned warehouse in Toronto last Halloween at like 5am (they had to sneak in to do it). It's all verb'ed out but unlike all the holy grail pedal verb'ed out (they have never heard the Dum Dum Girls) modern indie pop bands this is actually REAL reverb created by a monsterous space in a huge abandoned building that would probably give me allergies. So thats pretty cool. I have a record. You should too. I'm helping spread the word!

Hey, remember our Sonic Youth diss song? Well that whole recording session from ATP festival in the UK last year is now available on cassette (limitit) through South Paw. The story for all those that need a refresher goes like this:

Fucked Up played ATP festival last year, I think it was last year. It was one of those cold, rainy and super annoyingly cliche English days and while the rest of the band were running around pretending to be english, hanging out with music nerds, or getting really stoned in one of the many band cabins or caravans or cottages they supplied for us - Jonah and I were seeking a quick revenge on some shit talk we heard going around the festival. Basically Sandy had over heard in an interview Sonic Youth call Fucked Up "Jock Core" or "dude core" or something like that. She was definitely NOT high when she heard it, so we definitely took it REALLY seriously and decided to diss the shit out of them on a record cuz thats what rappers do and looking around at all the pointy shoe'd english nerds still wondering how to dress after hearing the first Editors record years ago and now trying to deny they liked it and clearly afraid of any confrontation, we were inspired to be just the opposite (COOL DUDES). We happened to be with our friend Ben Raynor. He's a ginger. An idiot (INSERT QUICK LINK TO YOUTUBE CLIP OF HIM MOSHING TO HATEBREED 10 YEARS AGO THAT I AM TOO LAZY TO GO LOOK FOR). A talented Vogue photographer. Drunk. English. Etc. We made him write all the lyrics and sing on the thing. I played drums. Jonah played a 30$ guitar. We all ended up singing together. It cost 30 british sterling shillings pounds, and was done in 40 minutes. The term "Cranking" as heard in the hit "Cranking To Sonic Youth" apparently means crying and masturbating at the same time.

The rest of the tape has songs about posh people, the nerds at the concert walking around, and a slovakian grill worker at burger king on the venue grounds who thought we looked like "the clash". Really thought provoking stuff.

Anyways, HERES THE TAPE ORDER IT HERE. The beef is over (never really was a beef, just bored shitless at a festival), and Jonah has since saved Thurston Moore's ass twice by playing in his very shitty, very unrehearsed hardcore cover band down at SXSW this year (this band also featured the long haired guy from Alice In Chains, ACe Frehley with no make up, and Ryan Adam's Sister). It was actually awesome, and Jonah knowing every song (they did like 30) off the top of his head on bass only further proves what a straight up psychopath he is. Fucked Up were proud of their Jonah that day (except Mike).

In other news: I have been recording Demo's for toronto's ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS, and they are the best band in the city and its fun. And I'd like to announce a YOung GUv/Lets Wrestle Split 7" due out in the UK at some point. Yay.

Hey! So, heres WHATH UP!
New Marvelous Darlings 7" has just dropped on Plastic Idol (Notice thats Mario's 3rd release from one of my things.. Dude knows whath up, huh?). It's called "I'll Stand By Her". When I leaked the mp3 a couple months ago Pitchfork posted it and called it "the best punk song of all time" or something like that, and everyone thinks all this stuff sounds "westerbergian" or "westerbergesque" even though I only really started like The Replacements like last year, and I really kind of only like the Tim record and that song "Androgynous". Anyways - This record is now out, and you can pick it up HERE. The cover of the record is a dude in drag lying on his bed with a birthday cake with condom balloons on his wall and a flag that if you look closely says "Toronto". This image was found at the Toronto Reference Library.

Also tomorrow is the opening of Parts N Labour. A new Queen West venue/cool dude eatery with a lot of potential. Pretty psyched for it. The Bitters will be headlining opening night of both resturant and venue TOMORROW NIGHT (friday!). Gonna pop off. Hopefully my reservations don't fall through so I can eat slow cooked pigs face torriene or whatever it's called. Everyone is going to get really drunk, and lots of fat people are going to get really sweaty - hopefully from the show and the food! Yum.

#1 has some audio clips at the bottom. The 2nd one I talk about writing songs for pop artists and blatently talk shit about them. I'd like to add that I really enjoy doing that cheesy stuff, and if someone else out there is looking to make me a bunch of money for writing songs for them and then have me go shit talk them in NOW, I'm totally up for it. JK!! It's all in good fun!! I just hate happy happy friendly borderline fake interviews where people are afraid to speak their mind. I however don't think I'm articulate enough to pull off what I'm trying to do and I just end up sound like a huge jerk... Oh well. Could be worse (actually this is kinda like Fucked Ups Canadian tour!! :). I don't want to talk shit on Hedley anymore cuz that dude put the guy from Len in the hospital after hitting him with a lava lamp or something at the Bovine. OUCH! Also my song only made it to the album and wasn't a single and i directly ripped it off The Eagles (ITS SICK!!!) so it only paid my rent for like a month as opposed to the rest of my life like if Fucked Up actually wrote this.

Hey so I'm back from tour. Check out this porno I "acted" in back in the winter. It also features a couple ladies who came from one egg that was fertilized to form one single zygote and then got divided into two separate hosers. Oh hey. So first this record came out via mp3 a month ago, now it is out on cassette. You would think we would have somehow timed everything to come out at the same time (vinyl is available MAY 5th! on Mexican Summer), but things just didn't work out like that. Who cares! Here is the tape version limited to 250. Printed as professionally and as 90's looking as possible, as this is basically so I could have a copy that looks like the tapes I used to buy at Music World at a mall in Scarborough I used to go to when I was 12. For all you audio nerds out there I think this version of the record probably sounds THE BEST. Say what you want about it, but this is not a lo fi record. At times, this is a bigger and thicker (and muddier) recording than any 500$ a day studio would dare pull off, ya heard me? And it was all FREE!

Release The Bats has released this, and you have to order it from Sweden because that's where they are from. I went there once (or twice?), it looked like Canada and everyone was a really attractive zombie.
Don't worry though, I'm sure Ikea will carry it soon worldwide. Let's hope they combo it with a Daim Bar, or some of those marvelous meatball plates. Speaking of Ikea, my bed mattress was purchased there. The model is called FloorVag. no shit eh. Wowzers.

Well, another weeks gone by! Man Oh Man!
This time I found myself in Kensington Market in Toronto! Aka The Venice Beach of Toronto!
I caught a live showing of hippies who'd been exiled from Vancouver. It was nauseating as all hell!

Amanda got so scared of the hippies, I had to phone two hard ass male friends of mine to protect her from the hippies.
Oscar was so enraged at the sounds that he dislocated his jaw while eating one of them.
Then Trash Talk came and beat the shit out of everybody else.
Then we all went and cooled the fuck off. After chillin for a bit, I found this map made for me by Mike "7th heaven" Haliechuk. It was supposed to be a guide for all the things I should be doing with my life in the Year of the Tiger.

But instead all it lead me to was a deer, so I killed it.

Then I ate it, it was gross. Also the wine gave me Asthma.

Then I left this for Mark cuz we should do the next Roommates tape. But instead of recording he flooded the kitchen so I'll take that as a "not right now". Sorry nerds.

So instead I recorded Tropics for a lathe 7" and a single, and then I went to their show and watched them destroy an entire basement and get hit in the head with bibles. I also stood behind Simone the whole time she was drumming and smoked 19 bowls and got hit in the dick with her sticks a couple times.

Then I went to sleep and dreamed I was sleeping with my cat, but woke up and it was Dylan from the Bitters. Gross.

My cat appeared though after a while, and had found a piece of string and he had put it around his ear like a hat! What a WEIRDO!!

Hey I just dropped another smash single for the summer. Dirt Nap Records from Portland is putting it out. Gold vinyl and all that cool stuff! It's a documentation of my time on set with the Jonas Brothers (not really actually at all)... Cindy is my agent for the extra work I do, and I've never met her - so the song is loosely based around that.. It's basically just about a person that I've never met who literally puts money into my bank account for doing nothing.. A fairy god mother type if you will. Also I sent her this song once to get into her good books to get more jobs to make more money for rent (the real reason for this record. HA!), and now a bunch of the other extras on sets have heard it and its embarrassing and I think they think I am in love with her or something because I wrote her a song. Also, it worked and I get more work and more money for rent. The cover is Nick Jonas with my eyes photoshopped over, and its a scan taken from a real 10 year old girls wall when I was filming a movie project playing a leather jacket bad boy in a film by Danielle Nemet (she will post this one day, and it will be awesome. its basically jerk off material for the entire world because it features the huckleberry twins in nightys and pajamas and shit. mad weird. - danielle rules and basically takes all the amazing photos for all the records i am a part of these days). Anyways, thats it. The Cindy A side was written with my roommate Marvelous Mark Fosco, and the B side features Mr Jo from Fucked Up/Madmen/Career Suicide on drums. B side was inspired by a David Suzuki documentary about weed (i was high). Good song.

Hello everyone. I'd like to announce another Guvnor 7" release. This single is called "Bedtime Stories". Gross art by Amanda from Huckleberry Friends. (Attn: Marion Aka Grandma - STOP READING RIGHT HERE) The song is about a time in my life where I was having a bit of a problem 让过去的经验中因正常的亲密关系与亲密的时刻shadier方勃起。是啊，这就是正确的。Maybe I'm revealing too much here? I think the whole be really transparent and open Fucked Up/Pink Eyes vibe has rubbed off on me a little too much!! Oh well. Those times are in my past, and I'm fully functional and now theres a cool single to document it all! YAY! The flip side "The Cutter" is about a similar time in my teenage life where I would steal my mums car and meet lots of strangers off the internet in the middle of the night. I hung out with a girl who had some real problems one time (this isn't supposed to be funny or cheeky). It left an impression on me. I can only hope she's alright. I met a lot of different and interesting people this way in some pretty shady areas of the city. It was kind of like a secret life for me as I didn't ever really tell anyone (except Matty D and sometimes CeCe Diemond) and in retrospect it was dangerous and stupid. 多伦多可能认识到这个故事。绝对满足了我过去唯恐在很久以前她。亚当基安布郎，愚蠢的他妈的'的男孩。

Morning: HBF first lathe series record sells out in an hour with dudes setting alarms so they could buy it at 7am. Dudes on Terminal Boredom get rock hard boners.

Afternoon: Thriller Energy Sue Fucked Up! Aah! Potential interviews with CP24 get scheduled (I'm supposed to pretend I am the owner of Thriller) then canceled as people realize its April Fools Day. The whole thing takes off, and is funny.

Evening: "Punk" Much Music with Josh. Big ups to Devon and Jessica and everyone there for not catching on and being cool about it.

Late night: The Bitters "Traveling Girl" gets played during a high fashion runway event for Betsey Johnson at Liberty Grande in Toronto. Millions of guidos and snazzed up ladies bop to something I recorded on my 4 track. Funny. Thanks to Avery for the invitation! The fashion world is WEIRD!

As a side note, I felt not a shred of guilt or regret about the trickery pulled by FU yesturday on fans and media alike. However.. I'd like to let it be known that when I sent this fake picture of toothless Ben to my girlfriend, brother and mom telling them a wigger pushed me off my bike and I smashed my face into a car and knocked my tooth out and them being such caring and great individuals completely bought it and felt great sympathy for me [(suckers) for some, I let the joke go on all day until they saw me at night]... I felt kinda bad.
